It's an oldie, and you don't get to see much gunk, but this is a picture of my dad after he tried playing with a 1lb. can of home made gunpowder! His mistake was thinking that a rolled up piece of scotch tape filled with the powder would make a good fuse. Well, the powder burnt right up inside of the little tube deal he'd made with the tape. **FWOOMP** a split second later he was blasted 6 feet back from ground zero! The glasses he was wearing saved his eyes, but the soot that formed on the lenses made it seem to him like he'd been blinded! Also, the force of the blast blew his wedding ring right off of his finger. It was the middle of winter, and miraculously, he found his ring mowing the lawn the following summer! So even though I don't have any bloody pictures or even after shots, I'll tell you that this episode did not leave a scar on his face.

----End E-Mail----

ED: I've heard of guys going to great lengths to get out of wearing their wedding ring, but that's just ridiculous.

I'm not exactly sure what "home made" gunpowder is (although I'm sure you can find some half-ass explanation on the web somewhere), but I think it's a safe to say that if a guy is making his own gunpowder, the design of the fuse is moot. A little time in the face ward (or wherever they take you when they have to wrap you like you are in a 1950's B movie) was definitely in the cards for this poor soul.
