Another friend reminded us that he had pictures of his finger after a model rocket engine incident. He and a friend lit a model rocket engine in the friend's bedroom. As ill-advised as this may have been, the worst part was that it ignited prematurely, while he was still holding it.

In our friend's signature story telling style, he recounted for us how he passed out and awoke in time to hear the percussive 'poof' that accompanies the engine releasing the parachute that is supposed to gently bring the rocket down from hundreds of feet in the air.

Today (20ish years later) his finger is amazingly normal looking for the trauma it went through.
