Back to this wound
user: GinaLouise date: 04/22/2004 00:52:03 message: Just wanted to write in that this person's photos have been a huge help to me as I am going through the helaing process from an almost identical injury. (The culprit being a falling television rather than a horse!) Don't worry. I've taken tons of pictures so far and plan to submit them soon.
user: fetch33 date: 04/23/2004 20:54:11 message: Gina, please email me at fetch33@aol.com and we can compare stories!

user: Deadly Treadmill date: 07/25/2004 19:18:32 message: despite that picture being called "front of thumb", there is no front to that thumb.
Good luck, fetch, and you too, gina.
user: mgml date: 12/13/2004 20:05:54 message: I am 13 years old and recently lost about a third of my middle finger with damage to both surrounding fingers. Reading your stories and looking at the pictures remind me a lot of what happened to me and helps me to know that other people have had this happen to them.
It's very, very grisly and painful and since you've had the same thing happen to you, I'd like to talk or swap stories and get advice from someone who has similar injuries.
I am worried about how it looks and feels. I'm kind of scared but it's only been a few weeks. I just don't know what to expect (and you know how surgeons are with answering questions like that!)
Thanks!

user: Bikeboy date: 03/02/2005 00:34:37 message: Hi, I am curious at this time how the sensation in your thumb tip is, and if it is pretty much back to normal excepting the scars, etc? I ask because I am thinking about the possibility of flap surgery for my thumb which sustained a tip fleshy amputation, and at the moment has about a 2cm free skin graft with almost no sensation, and no padding. I appreciate in advance your response.
user: fetch33 date: 03/17/2005 10:37:46 message: I have sensation, but it isn't the normal sensation I had. Since the skin came from much lower on the thumb, when I touch something, it still feels like I am touching what used to be that part of my thumb. Also, I have nerve damage which causes a tingling sensation in the tip of the thumb, but it is much preferable to no sensation! There is padding, but it is not even and I have to watch how I grasp things because it is a bit thin on the side towards my fingers. I am very pleased with the Moberg flap and am thankful I had a top hand surgeon to do the work. I was lucky. My thumb would have turned out much shorter without this type of surgery. Have you consulted a hand surgeon for this? Supposedly, the maximum you can stretch the nerves and vessels is 1 cm. Mine is actually 1.5cm and that may account for some of the nerve symptoms I have. If I were you, I'd seriously consider this type of surgery if it were appropriate.
