The NRA one of the strongest lobby groups in your country is a front for the gun makers, ask them they won't denie it. check out their annual reports see who donates to their group. wake up. Your country has never been anywhere to bail anyone out. You did not join either of the world wars until the allies where almost wiped out and you saw a financial oppertunity or when your county was directly attacked. I've meet your young men and women over in iraq and they all come from the poorer social economic groups. poorly educated. all smart but with no prospects at home in the US. you keep them poorly educated so you can have fodder to feed into your war machine. They are not going to take it much longer. What you will have is a generation of angry young Black, poor educated killers wanting more than you are willing to give, and they will have access to guns. dumb or what?.Solution. Travel wake up. see for yourselves what the real world is like before its to late. message: This is a awful story and the debate here is turning very nasty. Im a very proud American working as a nurse in a small medical centre in Texas. I've never got used to the gun culture here. My story is of a elderly man who was admitted to my unit following a fall. He was the president of the local chapter of the NRA. He insisted that he had the right to take his handgun into hospital with him. my manager aggreed and allowed him to have his gun with him provided it was not kept loaded and was out of sight at all times. During night shift i was confronted by this elderly man with a loaded hand gun demanding he be relased from the hospital because he belived we were trying to hurt him and to take his gun from him. He shot a security guard in the abdomin before being overpowered by myself and another nurse. We got a large payout from the hospital for damages but the story was never reported to the press or to law enforcement. the hospital manager was also a NRA member and the elderly man was the founder of a weopens producer. Yes the gun nuts have taken over.

message: It seems to me that there is only one solution to this issue which will please everyone.1.All firearms need to be banned from the general population. 2 All those wishing to own and use a firarm need to have it safely stored inside a safe building such as a Military or Police barracks. Hunting would be allowed within strict guidelines, ie you eat what you kill. Sporting shooters would be allowed access to their weopons under strict supervision. Bullets would need to be accounted for and all weopens would be tracked. Surly we are mature enough a nation to leave our defense to those who's job it is anyway. Habit is a good thing..The psychology in these posts is absolutely fascinating and I won't descend to the level of bill, etc. in the language department, but for those of you who believe you can ban guns, ban all guns, etc, --consider, if you will, the sten gun (full automatic machine gun from WW2 england, made in bicycle shops)...a piece of pipe with a few moving parts that can be made with a saw and file, a bolt which can be machined with a dremel tool...cartridges and primers that can be made from brass pipe, with hand cast bullets, gun powder that was made hundreds of years ago straight from nature, etc. After the ‘94 Clinton gun ban here in the US, I watched a guy make one from scratch…it worked flawlessly, and then he took another piece of pipe and made a silencer for it…again, the only sound was the action cycling and I was able to remove the ear protection…he had no education and worked in a diesel shop…if he could do it, any of you can. This is why I can not understand who, in their right mind, can think he can fully disarm the populace….but then again, I just read about a group in England who is trying to ban knives over a certain length (!!!) …The criminal element will always be here, and there is nothing we can do to fully stop it…You can not abolish their implements, but you can lock them up or execute them. Since they will always be armed, why should the populace not be allowed the basic right of self defense and also be armed at the same level?

If the gun didn't exist the baseball bat wound probably wouldn't be fatal. Guns are only for killing and it can never be taken back. There is no other weapon that takes so little skill to operate that a 6 year old can kill a friend at school. Almost every other weapon requires talent, practice or is a non-deadly force.

I'm a police officer who has worked with many services both here in the US and overseas with peace keeeping forces. The American mind frame is very interesting when it comes to gun control. Most of my fellow Americans belive that they have a right to own and to carry firearms due to some vague rferance within the Consitution. Many other countries populations also belive they have the right to carry firearms. Some of the former Soviet States. Third world countries in Asia and Africa. All civilised countries prohibit the ownership and use of guns. Its amusing that the US shares its values, when it comes to gun control, with third world countries.
