As for the speed.. on the press I was using, you need to set the speed at 1000rpm+ in order to be able to move the bit by hand while lining up. The drill was in neutral when I was lining up, and when I reached up to engage the lock when I had position, I accidently hit the gear selecter and she started up. Me-ow!

message: Ooh, the very description of this wound gave me the heebie-jeebies. I remember once, when I was probably 12 or 13, I was making a milkshake with one of those handheld mixer-things, and after I was done, held the mixer by the handle (without unplugging it) and proceeded to pull the mixing blade off the end of the shaft. Needless to say, my hand slipped over the power-button, and the blade spun up right in my palm. I don't remember it hurting that bad, but feeling more of a burning sensation. Jerked my hand away, and then got dizzy when I noticed the big swath of blood spattered at an angle across my T-shirt. Ouch. Wish I had pictures of that!
