message: Dear Jeff: I just had the same, exact toenail surgery on my left big toe. It looks exactly as mine does now. Did everything work out with your toe or did you have any complications? I have not had any pain or discomfort. I am still wrapping it up after soaking and applying antibiotic gel. How are you feeling? Cheers, Kiwi

message: I agree with coffee. If you take a long warm bath, and use clippers, and then shape the nail as so it wont become ingrown again, a hude podiatrist bill isn't an option. Wuss. I'm an 18 year old female, and Ive been doing this for close to 10 years...

message: Hey. Had this done in high school. Right big toe. Doesn't hurt too bad. Unfortunately both right and left big toes became infected. Bottom line...plastic surgery, removal of both big toe nails and their "roots"; no more big toe nails. Don't miss them. Hurt like a son of a bitch taking the bandages off though.

message: I had the same problem on both of my toe nails. I went to the doctor and he removed the ingrown part with scissors. It looked exactly the same as on your photo. He said the chances of growing it back were 50%. After a month of the surgery it grew back in both nails. I went to a private doctor and for $800 had it removed with laser. I also got lifetime warranty that it will never grow back again. It's been 2 years now since the surgery and my nails look and feel perfect.

message: Hi guys. I am a 15 year old girl who ever since november of 2002 has had an ingrown toenail. i was on accutane (acne medicine) and one of the side effects was ingrown toenails. well my retarded mom never told me so i started cutting my toenails. i guess i cut them wrong because the next day it was red. then about 4 months later (still on medicine) i got another one. a couple weeks later..another one. wow i was getting so lucky. So lets recap. I have my left big toe having em on both sides..and my left toe having it on the left side. The worst is the begining it is pusy..and scabby..so i got off the medicine and no more puss on my socks a foot long so more scacbing..but whenever i try to fix it i get the side of the nail but i dont see the hook. the two on my left big toe arent inside but they are outsides. i wouldnt bother if they were inside because you woudlnt even notice i had them. But i have
"puzzle pieces" for toes and i have noticed that my feet have grown into eachother..so i big toe is like an hour glass. I HATE NEEDLES. oh my god do i hate needles. when i asked someone in my study hall (they said they had one even before i asked) told me that they numb your toe. hm lets see i have it on both sides of my toe ..so am i screwed? i cry over anything that will hurt. i went to the doctor once and he said he fixed it. but the next week boom still there. i was watching something on tlc and this little kid arms was out of his socket so they gave him a pill that would make him sleep for 3 minutes. I WANT THAT I WANT THAT I WANT THAT. I NEED that. i wish i could use that so when i am sleeping he can put in the needle. i have had them for a year and i want to be able to wear open toed shoes without having socks!! i wish i could wear flip flops like everyone at school. PLZ tell me how the operation is and be honest. MY AOL INSTANT SCREEN NAME IS YELLOWSNOW2055. plz help me out ASAP

message: I just had the surgery today. Both master toes, both sides, it took 90 minutes and did not hurt very bad. Three shots in each toe, and the worst part was the fact that I hate needles. The doc used some cooling spray to dim the pain of the needle and that was very nice. I don't know about the results yet, and I haven't taken off the bandages yet, so I don't know what they look like. I do know that living with these ingrown nails for over 8 years caused more pain, much more pain, than this did.

message: first of all these people calling you a pussy obviously had a slight ingrown nail. I just had the surgery too. And i am definitely not a pussy. my ingrown nail was on both sides and curled clear down to the bottom of my toe. The surgery was great, because it was completely painless. If your living with extremely ingrown nails that puss, bleed, and cause excrutiating pain get the operation it's soo easy.

I have been on line all week searching for stories related to this type of surgery!!! I am so scared........You wouldn't know I have 3 kids...I mean labor has to be more painful right? Wish me luck! message: Just wanted to update you all on how my surgery went. It was a breeze! I will have to do it again in 2 weeks...the other side of the same toe. Pain was minor. The worse thing was the anticipation...even the shots were not bad at all, my docter used a numbing liquid spray before he gave me the shots and I did not feel the shots so bad...just a little burning as the liquid from the syringe entered my toe...post op I felt one or two pangs but hey this was not bad at all! Don't be scared go ahead and do it if your doctor suggests it!

message: >THE SURGURY<

i found your site, 2 days ago, looking for surgury pictures of what would happen to me in the next 2 days. its friday, november 14th, 2003. im15 years old, 16 on the 24th! i had the surgury yesterday, both sides of right big toe. i was scared, as the Dr pulled out a needle. whats this cooling spray because i was just thinking of naked women! when the Dr injects the xolcaine (or whatever) freezing into you, it makes you cringe. the sharpness hurts, like an instant bee string. they stuck 4 in me, 3 after the first one made the rest of the toe numb. they stuck them in the sides of my toe, where it starts coming out from the foot. they had me lie down, as i talked and read a magazine with my mother. after about 30 minutes of tugging and pulling, he wraps it up, still, i hadn't seen it, and it was frozen for 6 hours. i walked to the car, in the half snow half rain weather with pavement, with 1 shoe, and 1 sock. the operation was easy. i thought i was going to die. the worst part is the needles at first, or maybe the curiosity of wanting to look down to see what in the HELL they were doing! think of naked chicks or nurses doing it on the table or something, i went over my favourite song in my head. they told me they removed 2 sides of the nail, with my mom saying "a lot of skin". my interripation was the picture on this website of the after-surgury. the dr said it would bleed, and the second he wrapped it, it was bleeding all over. this didnt make me nervous, i had my sock on. a nurse comes to my house for 2 weeks, or until healed (not nurse BTW!) she was here a couple hours ago, im in my bed, computer on my nightstand. im on Tylenol 3, which, like anything else but horse tranq's, doesnt do all too much, making you think that it doesnt work. for the first day, i slept, with my toe feeling like someone was grasping it, probably because of the tight ass dressing they put on, and the blood, making it feel heavy. i slepped fine! but, waking up at 1am, thinking its 10am, leaves you thinking "how the HELL am i gonna sleep?!".. honestly, i had to go to the washroom. but i was too lazy to climb the 30 stairs on my ass again, so i hollered for my mom and she got my blanket/pillows, i slept on the floor in our hallway, just fine! wood floors! waking up to not having a pain killer incentive for over 8 hours was surprizing NOT painfull. i stayed in bed all day watching TV and playing PS2. the nurse should have came at 3ish, but came at 4:30-5:30. the blood had dried overnight, but still had a soft spot where i guess i was still bleeding! the nurse had me soak my foot in luke water, getting the bandage all soft and water, uh... all jawz-y.....this hurt, making the bandage heavy, putting pressure on the wounds. she cut, very gently and slowly, the bandage, responding to my owe's, so she could stop and spray salt-water (semlin, selema, seline, saline.. THATS IT! SALINE!) on my toe, (LOTS), i figured the more the better, it didnt hurt, but was cold. they packed in (AND I MEAN PACKED, NO JOKE, THE IDEA THAT MY WOUND WAS SO DEEP THAT THEY WOULD EVEN USE THE WORD "PACK" GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF HOW HARD AND HOW PAINFULL THEY STUFF THE FUCKING YELLOW BANDAGE DOWN THERE!) my toe, ...well, it looked GROSSE AND WEIRD! well, she took it out, ever so slowly, as this was THE MOST PAIN OF THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE (operation, coping, walking, sleeping) the sharp pain that you get when its coming out! dear god! run sally run!!!! my (may i say, cute, hot, gorgeous blink*182 fever) nurse *puts KY jelly away* was VERY gentle. i said OW, she said "MORE SALINE!!!" ..... new bandages time! yay! she cleaned it with saline, she stuffed new (white, not yellow this time, those bastards!) hardened bandage type stuff, yet soft, like her legs, ... AHEM!... she stuffed it in the wounds (which we will get to) with a long cotton swab, which hurt way less than taking it out! just go slow! whoooaaa nelly! wrapping it up, no pain at all. i can tap it and it wont hurt. kinda odd how a papercut stings.. but my wounds do not, like, at all. if i woke up without knowing what had happened to me, i wouldnt know. walking is strenuious or whatever, u know the walk-on-side-of-foot proceedures, or the "shimy", where you move your body on one foot planted on the ground. if your parents are 40 or older, get them to give you a shimy 101 lesson. with the new bandage, having been on for 6 hours, NO blood has been spotted! its all white :-D

>BE PREPARED, ITS REAL<
here is where my story climax's. when i saw what they had done to my toe, i was in shock. literally. i was in disbelief. i thought it was like it was now a peice of meat on my body ready to be cut off. they cut on the sides of my toe, about 2-CM deep by 1-CM across, both sides. it was like a gunshot. and i was wondering how the fuck my body can even attempt to grow back all that skin and shit. even without pain, the mental image of the grotesque peice of open flesh is unbearable to see or think about. my toe, is way worse than the fucking faggety ass pussy picture on here that you call surgury. dude, you should see my toe. i think ill photochop your picture, and show you just what mine is like. its FUCKED UP GUYS. the wound was so DEEP, like a crater.

>IS IT WORTH IT<
i cant say RIGHT NOW, because im bias to saying FUCK THAT ID RATHER HAVE MY TOE THANKS!!! but ill probably saying it was all worth it in the end. seriously, it is painless. depending on how deep your cuts are, if they are small, you will be fine. if they are large like mine, you will have a mental image problem where you refuse to accept the graphic surgical proceedures they do, in this year of 2003.

>ALTERNATIVES<
keep it! mine was infected. hurt when i stubbed it, but that usually happends with any toe. reoccurance may happen after surgury.

>OUCH<
long run, it will hurt more. girls dont like grosse feet! no pain after surgury after the first day. when changing bandages, YES! lots! (only taking out the stuffed in part). no blood after first bandage change, no pain (my foot is 98% inclined on a bed all day, washroom, going upstairs to bed - 2%). i hope this thing doesnt get infected. i swear, i might kill myself. i cant go through with something like amputation. we'll see. ill talk about my toe tomorow, i promise, after the second dressing is done. this concludes our broadcast day. PS - i type very fast, dont worry. but this _DID_ take me half an hour.

message: Okay, so I've had ingrown toenails for about...um... 10-13 YEARS!!!. I'm 20 and have had them since like second grade. They hurt me so bad. My socks were bloody..and EWH...I couldn't walk barefoot, so I hated swimming, summer sucked b/c socks are hot, and it's just plain embarassing. Well, I decided that while I'm still on my parent's insurance I should have it taken care of. I'm cheap. :) So I did. I went in for a consultation. The dr. said he'd remove both nails, and destroy the root. I cried on my way home b/c I thought I'd look like even more of a freak, but I went ahead w/ surgery. I had 3 shots in each toe. HURT LIKE HELL, but the good news is that after I went numb, I couldn't feel anything, AT ALL. The surgery to remove my nails took about 10 minutes. I was awake and he told me step by step what he was doing. No pain at all. Really. Well I haven't experienced any pain w/ my toes since that day. I'm going back every week to have them checked on. I'm on antibiotics, and I'm so happy. I may never be a sandals model, but I'm enjoying some stuff again...lol even sleeping b/c I don't have to keep my feet out of the covers. The shots hurt, but the doc said I could've had gas, but I opted for the needles b/c I wanted to be awake. IF YOU HAVE any ?s email me @ starelana83@yahoo.com I'm obviously not a doctor, but I had that problem for over half my life. GOOD LUCK

message: The names Randy. I'm 18 years old. Now, I'm sure alot of you know how painful an ingrown toenail is. Or if yours weren't all that bad, then put yourself in my situation.

I've had bad toes since I was around 5-8. I can't remember. All I know is, my toes don't get ingrown. They get fucked up. The toenail doesn't just curve into the skin, it grows IN the skin. And even worse is, I can't afford to see a doctor, even the family one which would only cost like 50 bucks. So, its been here for a full 3 years. Now, its grown in so much, there are not one, but TWO lumps of skin that are now growing out over my nail, and within the end of the year, will grow over and make my entire toenail disapear. Thats not even the worst part....no, its infected too. I put on clean socks in the morning and wrap it up in bandages, then by the end of the day, the entire upper part of my sock is yellow and red with pus and blood. Fun, no? It was so bad, it rotted off the top of my toenail. Now theres only a piece left about a half a centimeter long.

So, right now, since I can't afford a doctor, I've been ghetto. Yes, yes, I know all the dangers of doing self surgery, but I had my peroxide, my razor, a towel, and lots of bandages. So far, its working. It was infected so bad, it numbed itself, so it was relitivly painless. Now its wrapped up and I'm going to wait for awhile to see how it turns out, as well as finish cutting off the rest. I have nothing better to do, so I'll let ya'll know how it turns out. Bye!

message: I had both sides of both toes done in May 05. I haven't had pain since. The pain of a severly ingrown toenail is sooo bad. So, the pain from the surgery doesn't even compare. I would say if you have bad toe problems, have the surgery. I am so very glad that I did.
